Construction of an approximately 18,000 sf gymnasium and multipurpose facility for Sandhills School will break ground this month. Sandhills School is a not-for-profit, co-educational day school for children first through twelfth grades. Located off Garners Ferry Road on 22 partially wooded acres, it hosts a pond, wilderness trails, wildlife, protected beehives, sports fields and a playground. Sandhills provides the foremost learning environment for students with an average to superior intellect who learn differently. Sandhills develops the potential of each student by fostering intellectual curiosity, principled character and a commitment to serve. Sandhills School is the only school in the Midlands that has the prestigious Orton-Gillingham Accreditation and only one of twelve in the entire United States!

Boyer Construction looks forward to the start of the Sandhills Gym Project, which will consist of a state of the art maple basketball court, fine arts performance stage, class rooms, meeting area, weight room, and outdoor social gathering area with fireplace. The exterior will be a combination of brick veneer and EIFS with an outdoor basketball court and tennis practice facility. Sandhills School conducted a ceremonial groundbreaking following its commencement exercises on May 27, 2016. Construction will begin in early August.

Goodwill Industries of Upstate/Midlands South Carolina broke ground on their newest facility in Travelers Rest, SC. The new facility will create approximately 20 full-time positions and will include a retail store, outlet store, and a Goodwill Job Connection. It is scheduled to open in the fall of 2016. This is Boyer Construction’s third project for Goodwill.

Goodwill Job Connections provide free assistance to help job seekers connect with potential employers and find permanent employment. Services include access to resources like computers and the internet, fax machines, telephones, and job leads and referrals. A trained employment specialist is on-site to assist individuals with their job search. Goodwill also provides job training services to help people gain the skills needed to begin careers in Manufacturing, Food Service, Retail, Call Center, Cleaning Management, and as Certified Nurse Aides.

Goodwill Industries of Upstate/Midlands South Carolina helps people become independent through education and training leading to employment. Last year, Goodwill placed 10,596 people into employment through its job training programs and Goodwill Job Connection services.

The primary 64,500 square foot, three-story climate controlled storage facility, and adjoining 17,500 single story storage facility was completed April 29th, 2016. The Hallmark Self Storage project is a great addition to the rapidly growing South-East area of Columbia, SC.  The facility is located on Garners Ferry Road, between Interstate I-77 and the Wm. Jennings Bryan Dorn VA Medical Center. Locally developed, the Self-Storage facility will be operated by CubeSmart.

CubeSmart is a self-administered and self-managed real estate investment trust. CubeSmart owns or manages 744 self-storage facilities across the United States. According to the 2016 Self Storage Almanac, CubeSmart is one of the top four owners and operators of self-storage facilities in the U.S.

Cason Development Group has recently completed a new Taco Bell restaurant at 3259 St. Matthews Road in Orangeburg County. The new restaurant opened for business on Friday, April 1.

Cason Development developed the project for Prepared for You Inc., a South Carolina-based Taco Bell franchisee. Boyer Construction of Columbia was the general contractor for the project which incorporates a restaurant design for Taco Bell that has not been widely used in South Carolina, said Frank Cason, owner of Columbia-based Cason Development Group. Investment in the project was over $1 million, including land cost, Cason said.

“Cason Development Group was delighted to be chosen to handle this project for Taco Bell, and we look forward to expanding our relationship with them on other projects,” Cason said. “We value the opportunity to serve a company that shares our corporate values.”

The 2,400-square-foot, free-standing restaurant and drive-thru is located along the busy Highway 601 corridor between Interstate 26 and the City of Orangeburg. The restaurant, Taco Bell’s second in Orangeburg, is between a Dollar General and an auto dealership and is less than a mile from the I-26 interchange.

The new Orangeburg location is the seventh Taco Bell for co-owners Gary Feathers and Billy Baker. Cason Development is also working with Feathers and Baker on Taco Bell locations in Batesburg-Leesville and Lady’s Island. Another is under construction in Santee and several other sites are currently under consideration.

Feathers said Cason took on the task of project manager for the Orangeburg Taco Bell. “Frank took a lot of the day-to-day nuts and bolts off our plate. He performed really well. He managed our co-op where we get all of our equipment from and he managed the contractor. He communicated with us on a daily basis or as needed. It was very smooth, that’s why we are using him for our other projects,” Feathers said. “He was a godsend, he really was.”

Renovation of Old Warehouse moves Company Headquarters to Bluff Road in Columbia, SC.

Softdocs newly renovated headquarters, only steps away from Williams Brice Stadium, was recently completed. Softdocs has 64 employees and plans to add 25 or 30 more over the next 18 months. The present employees include 15 software developers, 10 salespeople and the rest support services, training and troubleshooting technicians, many of whom live outside the state.

Boyer Construction is proud of the 20,000 square-foot renovation project, which converted an existing textile warehouse into modern office space. The project featured a new front facade of the building with brick veneer and curtain wall windows, decorative epoxy coating over existing concrete floors, open ceilings with exposed duct work, and storefront offices throughout. The rear warehouse space was also converted into a tailgating/rental area for local events.

As Softdocs continues to grow, their current client list includes Midlands Technical Collage in Columbia, all 58 North Carolina Community Colleges, and Central Texas College – which is one of the largest community college in the nation, boasting 85,000 students. Softdocs has even landed California’s Cabrillo College, located in Silicon Valley – the software capital of the world.
