Columbia, SC – Boyer Commercial Construction, Inc. broke ground Wednesday on a new Arts and Recreation facility for Sandhills School.  The 18,000 square foot, $2.2 million project features a performing arts stage, basketball gym, classrooms, weight room, multi-purpose rooms, and outdoor living areas.

Sandhills School is a not-for-profit, co-educational day school for children first through twelfth grades.  Located at 1500 Hallbrook Drive in Southeast Columbia, the Sandhills School campus consists of 22 partially wooded acres including a pond, wilderness trails, wildlife, protected beehives, sports fields and a playground.  Sandhills School provides the foremost learning environment for students who learn differently and is the only school in Columbia that has the prestigious Orton-Gillingham Accreditation.

The Sandhills School Arts & Recreation Center will consist of a state of the art maple basketball court with retractable goals, a fine arts performance stage, class rooms, meeting areas, weight room, and an outdoor social gathering area with fireplace.  The exterior of the structure will be a combination of brick veneer and EIFS with an adjacent outdoor basketball court and tennis practice facility.

“We are thrilled to be working with Boyer Construction on our Arts & Recreation Center. This state of the art building will help us meet our mission and enable us to teach core values such as leadership, teamwork and collaboration through sports, music, fine arts, theater and dance.” – Anne Vickers, Head of School
